I attended the University of South
Carolina and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio
Art, with a concentration in graphic design. I went straight to work for
a secret government agency (a secret because I'm not revealing where I
work) as a graphic designer, and became the art director in late 2004. I
also co-host and have designed the website for, the Acme Comics' Dollar
Bin podcast, located at www.theacmecomics.com.
I maintain my own website and blog at www.krisblack.com.
I live in Columbia, South Carolina with my beautiful wife and daughter. With my background in design, typography and my interest in comics, lettering is a natural fit for me and a career I am actively pursuing in the comic book industry. Some of my favorite letterers are Richard Starkings and John Roshell of Comicraft, Tom Orzechowski and John Workman. My favorite comic artist of all-time is John Romita, Jr. Some others include Alex Ross, Géorge Perez and Tommy Lee Edwards. I read a lot of mainstream Marvel and DC titles with a spattering of Vertigo, Image and independent comics. I also enjoy collecting trades and graphic novels. I am fortunate to call myself a member of Hard Way Studios and am thrilled to be working with other talented artists and writers.
